Connect a device
Approve a short code in your browser so the Lightroom plugin or a phone app can upload for you, without sharing your password.
A device, such as the Lightroom plugin or a phone app, connects to your Magpie account with a short code. You approve it in your browser. The device never sees your password or your two-factor code.
Connect a device
- On the device, start the sign-in. It shows an 8-letter code, like
WDJB-MJHT, or opens your browser for you. - If the browser didn’t open, go to
/deviceon the Magpie site and sign in. Enter the code. Capitals and the hyphen are optional. - Check the name and kind of device. You should see something like “Allow Ana’s iPhone (iPhone app) to upload to and view your libraries?”
- Choose Allow to connect it, or Deny to refuse it.
- Go back to the device. It finishes connecting within a few seconds.
You need to be signed in with a verified email address. If yours isn’t verified yet, the page asks you to do that first. See Verify your email.
Only allow a device you just started yourself. The name on the screen is chosen by whoever started the request. If someone sent you a link or a code, or asked you to type one in, choose Deny. The page also shows when the request was started. If that isn’t when you began signing in on your own device, choose Deny.
What a connected device can do
A connected device acts as you, with the same access you have to each library. It can upload photos, finish imports and fetch thumbnails. If you can only view a library, the device can only view it too. It can’t change your password, billing or settings.
The code works for 10 minutes and only once. After five wrong codes in 15 minutes, wait a little before trying again.
See and remove your devices
Open Settings, choose Security, and look under Signed-in devices. Each device shows when it signed in and when it was last used. Choose Sign out next to a device to remove it. It stops working at once. See Your security settings.
A device that isn’t used for 60 days is signed out on its own.
If something goes wrong
- “That code does not match a waiting device…” The code may be mistyped, expired or already used. Check it against the device. If in doubt, start again on the device to get a new one.
- “Too many wrong codes.” Wait 15 minutes, then try again.
- The device is still waiting. Make sure you chose Allow, not Deny.
