← Edit your photos

Undo, save and revert

Take back a step, keep an edit, or go back to your original.

Undo and redo

While you work, press Ctrl or ⌘ + Z to undo your last change and Shift + Ctrl or ⌘ + Z to redo it. A drag of a slider counts as one step. Undo only covers what you have done since you opened the editor; it is gone once you leave.

Save

Click Save, or press Ctrl or ⌘ + S. We keep your edit as a new version, and the photo shows it on your timeline and in the viewer within a few seconds. The editor tells you “Saved as version 2. Your original is unchanged.” Your original file and your storage use stay the same.

Leave the editor

Click Cancel, or press Esc. If you have unsaved changes, we ask Leave without saving?. Choose Keep editing or Discard changes.

Revert to original

Click Revert to original and confirm. The photo shows the original again everywhere. Your saved edits are kept; nothing is deleted. Reverting needs only permission to edit in the library, so it still works if the library moved to a plan without editing.

Edited photos show an Edited badge in the viewer. After a revert, the badge goes away.

When two people edit the same photo

If someone saves a newer edit while you work, saving shows This photo was edited somewhere else. Click Reload the latest edit to start from theirs. Nothing saved is lost, because every save is kept as its own version. Then make your changes again.

See Edit your photos for who can edit.
