Switch libraries

Move between your personal library and your family libraries.

You have one personal library. You may also own or belong to family libraries. The library you’re looking at is the current library.

Switch

On a computer, the library switcher is in the sidebar. On a phone, it’s in the menu.

  1. Open the switcher. It lists your Personal library first, then your Family libraries, each with your role in it, such as Owner or Viewer.
  2. Choose a library.

That library becomes the current one, and the page refreshes to show it.

Pages follow the current library

The timeline, search, uploads, downloads, the trash and the rest all work on the current library. If you’re on a page that belongs to one library, such as a folder, an album or the photo editor, switching takes you to the main page of the new library instead, because that folder or photo isn’t in it.

If it doesn’t work

If the list won’t load, you’ll see Your libraries could not be loaded. Try again. If a library won’t open, you’ll see That library could not be opened. Try again.

To make a new one, see Create a family library.
