How storage is counted
What uses space in your library, where to see it, and what happens when you reach your limit.

What counts
Only your originals count: the files exactly as they were uploaded, at their full size. That includes:
- Every photo and video you upload or import.
- Photos that guests or other members add to your library. They count against the library owner’s storage.
These don’t count:
- The previews we make for your timeline and the photo viewer.
- Photos we recognize as already in your library. We don’t keep a second copy.
- Downloads you prepare on the Downloads page.
Photos in the trash still count until they are deleted for good, after 30 days or when you empty the trash. See Delete and restore photos.
See how much you’re using
- On a computer: the Storage box at the bottom of the sidebar shows how much of your storage you’ve used. Click it to open your plan.
- On any device: go to Settings, then Plan and billing. Your use is under Storage.
When your library is full
If an upload would take you over your limit, it stops with “This would go over your … storage limit.” Nothing is deleted, and every photo stays viewable and downloadable. New uploads are paused until there’s room again.
To keep adding photos, choose a plan with more space. See Plans and billing.
